Winter Snow – March 2018

Finally we have some snow, not much but its something, the rest of the UK has had a good covering and lots of people having problems with power and travel. Cornwall dose get less snow than other parts of the UK and we knew this before we moved. Our youngest child is 4 and has never seen show, to her this was a great days and she was first out to play in it. School was closed for a few days, it is quite rural and some teachers live on the moors and in small villages. As I work from

Freelancing and Working From Home

For the last 16 years I have run my own I.T. company, providing services to UK Fire Services and SME’s. I also have provided a lot of SEO consultancy to small companies. Now we are living in Cornwall I need to be able to work more and more from home, a good friend of mine recommended Freelancer.com, I have joined this but found that a lot of the work is won by people from India etc as they are so much cheaper. Looking at the freelance market I found PeoplePerHour.com, registered and have won some work through it. An of

Off on Holiday to…… Cornwall

Its Holiday time, for the last 5 years we have been renting a holiday home in Cornwall, the one for this year was booked in 2015 before we knew for sure we would be moving to Cornwall. Only an hour away this year instead of 3 1/4, so much easier to and although we still left early to beat the traffic. Cornwall is a great place to visit for a holiday, come to Cornwall and enjoy yourself, you never know, it might tempt you to move here as well. Kernow a’gas dynergh

Royal Mail Redirection… or Not

Just spent the weekend with friends and relatives close to where we moved from, I rung the new owners of our old house just on the off chance to see if any post had slipped through the redirection service, Guess what, a pile of it waiting for us. I think a call to Royal Mail is in order to find out what has gone wrong. Glad to be back in Cornwall, So peaceful.

keltic fuel oils

Buying our first heating oil

Our previous house was on mains gas supply so the heating and hot water were run on gas, we also had a solid fuel stove in the living room. Mains gas is not available in lots of rural villages and hamlets in Devon and Cornwall so the options are Oil, Bottled Gas or an LPG Tank. Our new house has a 1350 ltr oil tank that runs the boiler, the previous owners had left around 300 ltrs. With oil being at a low price at the moment its a good time to fill it to the top, looking at the

Broadbeans… and other Veg

Previous owners had planted broad beans before they left, they are growing well but the Dartmoor wind is starting the hit them. Staked them at the weekend and plenty of string to hold them up.   Potatoes are in, starting to poke through the soil, First earlies. Greenhouse has seed trays for Sweetcorn, Pumpkins and Runner beans.

We have decided to move to Devon…. (maybe Cornwall)

After a lot of discussion we have cleared the junk from our house, decorated from top to bottom, inside and out. Its time to move to a place with a bigger garden for the kids and to get a better lifestyle for the family. All we have to do now is: Find the right area to live in Sell our house Find a house Get a mortgage Sort Schools and pre-School Move house How hard can it be? what could possibly go wrong?
