finding our way around

Finding our way around

After living in the previous town for 18 years we got to know where everything was, shops, services, places to go etc. Moving 140 miles away and its quite a task to find what we want. Here are a few shops we have found so far: Homeleigh Garden Center – Good all round garden centre, sheds, plants, fish, pets, tools and of course a tea room. Phillip Warren Butchers – Some of the best Steak we have every tasted, really good service, wide range of meat and great value for money B&N Farm Foods – Local delivery or pick up from the farm,

Bigger Garden, Bigger Mower

For many years a small electric lawn mower has been enough to keep our lawn in shape. Now we have a much bigger garden its time to move up to a Petrol powered one. After looking at several new ones and some secondhand ones on Ebay I decided that it must have a Briggs and Stratton engine as its a well known make and it will be easy to get spares and service, the next point is the construction, lots have plastic / polymer bases, these wont last so well so a metal base is a must. Finding a Guitar Teacher

Before we moved to Cornwall our son had been having Guitar lessons at his school, he was having a shared lesson with other children. the new school was not offering lessons so we had a good search around and found Bude Strings. What a great teacher, progress has been really good and the cost is good. Shortly after we started the lessons the school started to offer them, more expensive and shorter time so we stuck with Jan Deis-Horton in Bude. Highly recommended teacher, he is also very good with repairs and recommending suitable instruments when moving to a larger guitar.

I think a call to Royal Mail is in order to find out what has gone wrong. Glad to be back in Cornwall, So peaceful.

keltic fuel oils

Buying our first heating oil

Our previous house was on mains gas supply so the heating and hot water were run on gas, we also had a solid fuel stove in the living room. Mains gas is not available in lots of rural villages and hamlets in Devon and Cornwall so the options are Oil, Bottled Gas or an LPG Tank. Our new house has a 1350 ltr oil tank that runs the boiler, the previous owners had left around 300 ltrs. With oil being at a low price at the moment its a good time to fill it to the top, looking at the

Broadbeans… and other Veg

Previous owners had planted broad beans before they left, they are growing well but the Dartmoor wind is starting the hit them. Staked them at the weekend and plenty of string to hold them up.   Potatoes are in, starting to poke through the soil, First earlies. Greenhouse has seed trays for Sweetcorn, Pumpkins and Runner beans.

The cats are coming home

Off to pickup the cats today, it will be a 2 1/5 to 3 hr trip back for them so i hope there is no traffic problems on the roads. A Sunday is a good day to travel as the traffic is lighter. Got to the cattery at 11am, they were really happy to see me, well one of them was, the other 2 sat there looking at me. Into there travel boxes, plenty of space towels, newspaper and bags in case they did a poo on the way home. Traffic was light, good trip back. The cats were very
